The Women's Missionary Union was organized in 1908.
The Women's Missionary Union is an important part of the lifeline of Hebron. Through the years it has been means of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ's love through missions. In the most recent years, the Lord has opened doors of opportunity that the WMU members can reach beyond the four walls of the church and go out into the surrounding community to share Jesus with others in so many unique ways. A few examples of our activities are: we started a Prayer Chain to uplift those who desired special prayer for their needs, provided lunch for clients of the Adult Sunshine Day Care, hosted holiday parties for the residents of Pinckney Place, and hosted bridal and baby showers. What a wonderful time we had bringing smiles to these precious people. They are always so appreciative and we come away blessed.
Another exciting project that began in the year 2001, is the "Ladies Victorian Tea." It was founded on the platform of the "National Day of Prayer." This is a time that we wear Victorian style dresses, hats, and gloves. Using Victorian decorations, crystal, and China. Ladies of WMU of other church are invited. We have a delicious luncheon, a guest speaker, and prizes. Our first tea was held at Hebron with 38 attending. November 2002, our tea was held at New Life Baptist Church with 165 attending. Our Brotherhood waited tables, dressed in white shirts, black bow ties, and black pants. We continued to increase the number wanting to attend, so in 2003, we moved to Veteran's Park - attendance was 225. In 2004, we hosted the tea in the First Baptist Church social hall, with 185 attending. The theme was Christmas; each lady decorated their table with Christmas decorations. In 2005, we returned to First Baptist for our fifth Victorian Luncheon with 180 attending. We feel that through the Teas, we have been able to bond not only with our ladies, but to bond and love other ladies of the community. That is some small way, we brought a smile, helped lift a burdened heart, or brought a ray of sunshine to someone that attended the tea. Someone that came with a need and left with a blessing of joy. The Lord has truly blessed the WMU of Hebron Baptist Church.
